Everything you need to know about the Pomodoro Technique and our timer app
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. Each interval is known as a "pomodoro" (Italian for tomato).
The technique helps improve focus and concentration by creating urgency through time constraints. Regular breaks prevent mental fatigue, while the structured approach helps overcome procrastination and provides a sense of accomplishment as you complete each session.
Yes! While the traditional Pomodoro is 25 minutes, our app allows you to customize work intervals (15-60 minutes), short breaks (3-15 minutes), and long breaks (15-60 minutes) to match your personal productivity rhythm and task requirements.
During short breaks (5 minutes), step away from your workspace, stretch, drink water, or do light physical movement. Avoid screens and work-related activities. During long breaks (15-30 minutes), you can eat, take a walk, meditate, or engage in relaxing activities.
Yes! Our desktop application works completely offline. Once installed, you don't need an internet connection to use the timer, track your sessions, or manage your tasks. Your data is stored locally on your device for privacy and reliability.
If interrupted by others, politely ask them to wait until your current Pomodoro ends. For internal distractions (ideas, thoughts), quickly write them down and return to your task. If you must handle an urgent interruption, that Pomodoro is considered "void" and you should start a new one.
